Dear Community,

The year ahead is one of celebration, as the doors of East Muskingum Schools will open for the 60th time.  This anniversary marks a time in history when those before us pooled their smaller resources together to educate students for a changing future.  East Muskingum Schools continues to nurture the seeds of high standards the alumni before us planted.  We have a growing student body, a highly qualified staff, and a supportive community that fuels a sustained focus on improvement. Our goal is to provide the best educational opportunities and the best experiences for the students of our community, utilizing the resources we have available. This is summarized in our motto: Educate, Motivate, and Graduate.

We are eagerly anticipating the arrival of approximately 2180 students who will enter our buildings for the fall of 2017. As enrollment and higher expectations for schools steadily increase, we will continue to respond to the resulting challenges.  Although faced with fluctuation in Ohio’s Learning Standards, benchmarks, assessments, and graduation requirements, we will endeavor to meet the academic needs of our students by providing a rigorous curriculum.  Our leadership team, which remains unchanged, is dedicated to providing the district’s 253 highly qualified staff members the resources and supports needed to teach a wide variety of courses, to provide special supports for students, and to direct a full extra-curricular program outside of the classroom. We continue to engage in an ongoing review of course offerings and content to meet the needs of our students and community. This year we have extended the technology courses at John Glenn High School by securing a full time technology teacher.  Where appropriate, the curriculum has been revised and new courses have been developed to meet the needs of today’s students, our community, and the educational priorities set by the state. We offer seven AP courses and nine College Credit Plus courses on-site throughout the academic year.

We must continue to be good stewards of spending with regard to facilities and grounds, as we address the constant challenge to maintain facilities so that they meet the demands of enrollment and changing curriculum. The Board of Education is forward thinking in planning to meet the needs of our students and community for the next sixty years. This 60th Anniversary is an exciting time, and a lot is happening at East Muskingum Local Schools. We hope you are proud to be a part of this community. Thank you for your continued support and trust to provide the best resources, the best educational opportunities, and the best experiences possible for our students.
