Build Your Resume

Build Your Resume Now!

Don’t wait until your senior year!

  • It will help you organize information about yourself, which will help you on applications such as National Honor Society, college and scholarships.
  • It will help people writing your recommendations to be more specific about you.
  • It will help start dialogue during an interview. The discussion will be centered on what you are familiar with, YOU.

Begin to brainstorm activities/employment/honors you have been involved in during high school. You will continue to add to this list each year.

Things to think about:

  • Clubs and organizations both in high school and the community (ex. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, NHS, Key Club) be sure to let the reader know what the club is and what your participation has been.
  • Community Service: Scholarships especially want to know about community service. If you haven’t done any community service, you should think about a cause that interests you and begin to work for that cause.
  • Athletics: What sports, what position, how long have you been involved, any honors or recognition.
  • Employment: How long have you been employed, how many hours per week do you work, what tasks do you perform.
  • Leadership: Colleges and scholarships want this information. If you haven’t had the opportunity to develop leadership skills yet, work on this area.

You will be surprised at how often a resume will be useful and how simple it is to update. Below are some programs that we use here at John Glenn where you can store your information and create your resume.

Most every student has been given information on how to log onto these sites. You can also stop in the guidance office for log in information. You can also create your own. You want the information to be concise and limited to one page.
