Juniors

Hello, Juniors!

Wow! where did the time go? You are already into your third year of high school. It is time to begin thinking seriously about what you want to do after high school. It is important for you to think about possible careers and the education required for your career choices.

We have several resources available in the guidance office to help you sort through the complexity of these choices. Please feel free to make an appointment with me to help you with your decision-making. I will be doing class presentations throughout the school year to encourage you to move along the path to your future. You will be provided with a Junior handbook in early December to help with the planning process.

Consider the following:
1. Keep tabs on your academic progress. Remember, your college acceptance will be based on your transcript through your junior year.

2. Analyze your PSAT results if you took the test. Be realistic about your strengths and weaknesses. Follow the suggestions given to you by the testing company.

3. Create your resume. Brainstorm all activities in which you participated since freshman year. List the awards you have earned and your work experience.

4. Attend school regularly. You cannot do well if you are not here! Colleges pay attention to attendance. When you do have to miss school make up missed work promptly.

5. Get involved! Join a club, complete a community service project, attend a sporting or musical event, etc.

6. Get help if you need it. Work with your classroom teacher or visit the EAT Room.

7. Continue career and college searches through OCIS and PrepHQ.

8. Register for testing dates for ACT and/or SAT. You can register on line at www.actstudent.org or www.collegeboard.com

9. Visit colleges in which you are interested. You have 3 excused absences if you use the required form. College Visitation Request Form located in the tower of information in the counseling office!

10. Be prepared, proactive, and proficient!
